Once more into the breach

In a move that will surprise absolutely no one I’ve known for more than twenty minutes, Monday will be my last day at Amazon. I’ve enjoyed my time there and gotten the opportunity to work with some amazing people, but the urge to build something from scratch is hard to resist for long, even in the face of ridiculous luxuries like “health insurance” and “a steady paycheck”. (My wife is an absolute saint, and should be recognized as such by a major religion any day now.)

I look forward to sharing more about what I’m up to in a few weeks, but for now let’s leave it at ‘diametrically opposed to gaming.’ Watch this space, as they say. If you’re really keen to know more, drop me a line!

Calexico - Frontera/Trigger

I’ve been aware of Calexico for some time, but their latest album, Spiritoso, hits every last sweet spot for me. Particular highlights for me include The track linked above, Frontera/Trigger; Minas de Cobre, with its surf-style guitar and swelling mariachi-style trumpets; and Para, which has a wonderful slow pulse of urgency that builds and recedes but never quite crests.  Well worth a listen.
